Schilling Injured?

There are reports today in the Globe and Herald that Curt Schilling may have a shoulder injury. It is supposedly serious enough that the Red Sox have investigated whether they can void the pitcher’s contract, and Schilling will be out until at least the All Star break. This injury just highlights how important it was to trade for Santana; this rotation isn’t as deep as people think it is.

With Schilling going down it opens a spot for Clay which I think can be very exciting for Sox fans. While I would like a healthy Schilling I was not expecting as much from him as other people. This definitely hurts but I do not think it is a huge loss for the Sox, but that may be me wearing my Homer-colored glasses I tend to wear a lot.

Shilling is done anyway. He’ll never pitch for the Sox again.

Agreed Garon, I didn’t expect much from Schilling either. I did expect him to be injured for at least some of the season. Now everyone has to face the fact that the rotation just isn’t that deep, which they should have seen before Schill went down. It’s just a good thing it happened before the season, so we can go get Kyle Lohse while he’s still available. He’ll save us!

Schilling is STILL my own personal hero if only from the 2004. As far as I’m concerned, he can play for the Sox even if he has to go to the mount with a walker (although I’d draw the line at a wheelchair). Thanks for breaking the curse Curt!

I swear I’m going to remember to proof read these eventually! I’m giving a reissue of that comment.

Schilling wouldn’t have been a major player in the season anyway, I couldn’t see him winning more than 10 games and that would be standard fair for a 3rd starter on a mediocre team. I agree with the above comments that creating a spot for Bucholz is a positive though if anyone gets injured things could get hairy.
